Here are some references for VirtualBox VDI hard disk vidma tool  various ways with: GParted, vboxmanage, cloning & pasting (VirtualBox 4+) Now, I must say that vboxmanage --resize didn't work for me.

I've been trying to enlarge virtual disk drives from my initials virtual machines created a few months ago; but found that they were created as fixed sized so i really freaked it up trying to enlarge.
